Cessnock not surprised to make the top 10 of best holiday destinations

Cessnock has taken out tenth place in TripAdvisor’s top Australian holiday destinations for 2015 and the City is not surprised by the news.

Cessnock City Council economic development manager Jane Holdsworth is pleased with the recognition for Cessnock via the world’s largest travel website. “Cessnock is home to the vineyards, but has so much to offer visitors in addition to our world renowned food and wine”.

Cessnock City and the Hunter Valley remains popular as a holiday destination because it has something to offer everyone. Jane confirms, “Here in Cessnock City, we have a diverse range of activities. Visitors can go ballooning and play golf, enjoy nature based, heritage and arts experiences alongside premium food and wine offerings”.

“We are very used to being on an international stage,” she said. “We attract world class music acts such as The Rolling Stones, hosted the Japan National Football Team for the 2015 Asian Cup and this weekend Rod Stewart will perform in our backyard.” A performance by the Eagles at Hope Estate earlier this month attracted more than 19,000 visitors to the Hunter valley wine region.

Jane believes Cessnock is joining the ranks of the top ten holiday destinations because it offers more than just high quality tourism products. “Cessnock is an authentic place to visit, we are very friendly people and we offer excellent customer service”.

This news comes at an opportune time with Cessnock City Council’s Economic Development Unit about to release dates for a new Business Leadership Workshop Series. Business representatives from across the area will be invited to learn from experts in tailored skills building workshops focused around Marketing, Sales and Customer Service.

“Our businesses and their employees are the ‘face’ of Cessnock and the Hunter Valley and it is important that we continue to offer the highest levels of service with the increased exposure from the TripAdvisor rankings”.

The top 10 list includes five Australian capital cities, with Cessnock the only Hunter region city:

1. Sydney
2. Melbourne
3. Brisbane
4. Cairns
5. Port Douglas
6. Hobart
7. Margaret River
8. Noosa
9. Adelaide
10. Cessnock
It is not the first time Cessnock has made headlines for being recognised amongst the best destinations in Australia, with the city ranking sixth in last year’s TripAdvisor “Top Ten Places to Visit”.

The Hunter Valley Visitor Centre is set and ready to receive over 900 visitors a day over the upcoming Easter to ANZAC Day period. Visitor Centre Coordinator Melissa George confirmed the centre has been working hard to support the anticipated influx of visitors.

“This Easter we are fully prepared to showcase Cessnock at its best. We have a wonderful range of resources to support our visitors such as a weekly What’s On Guide and have prepared a comprehensive list of businesses trading over the period.”
